Wasn't yesterday fun! We learned a lot about weight just by packing the see saw! Today we will expand on what we learned yesterday as we visit three centers.
Center One:
Weigh it Up and balance the scales!
Stack the scales until the bunnies are balanced.
Weigh the poodles in a game of Poodle Weigh In
When I give the time warning, you may take a second to check your weight on other planets!
Center Two: Make a Pound
I will give you a 1-pound weight. You will hold the weight and try to remember how heavy 1 pound is. Then, you will create a bag that will weigh about 1 pound. You can not use the scale!
After everyone in your group has made their 1-pound bag, weigh everyone’s bag using the scale provided.
Do the bags weigh less than a pound? More than a pound? Exactly the same as a pound?
You will record your answers on the sheet provided. Repeat these steps until you reach 1 pound or until time is called.
Center Three:
We learned yesterday that one unit of measurement for weight is the pound. We are all familiar with weighing objects using pounds...we weigh ourselves using this unit. Your job in center three is to complete the following tasks:
1. Each person in your group should weigh him or herself. If you are not comfortable doing so,
you can give an estimate of your weight, or your best friends weight, in pounds. Each weight
should be recorded in the provided chart.
2. Using the recorded weights, order your group members from lightest to heaviest.
3. Answer the "Think about it" questions on your worksheet.
